TEA Party Beats GOP in Court Again; Keeps Ballot Line in HD34
By Kenric Ward
Created 09/02/2010 - 6:40pm
For the second time in two days, Republicans were defeated in their attempt to remove a TEA Party candidate from a state House race.
Leon County Circuit Judge Jackie Fulford denied a motion Thursday that would have disqualified TEA Party hopeful John DeVries from the House District 34 contest.
DeVries is running against incumbent Rep. Chris Dorworth, R-Lake Mary, and Democrat Steve Barnes.
The Republicans' failed legal gambit was filed by Rep. Juan-Carlos Planas, R-Miami, whose law firm disclosed a retainer agreement in which the RPOF will cover all legal expenses.
"It is a great victory for the voters of Florida who are supporting the TEA Party movement and our political efforts and it is a great victory for the TEA Party," said party chairman Frederic O'Neal, an Orlando attorney who represented TEA and its candidates.
Republican Party officials were not immediately available for comment.
As Sunshine State News reported Wednesday, TEA also successfully defended its ballot position in state House District 91, though candidate John Perez was ordered to give way to a party-designated successor if he wins.
The TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party has 15 candidates running in legislative races. Three others are running for Congress and one for commissioner of agriculture.

TEA Party Keeps its Ballot Line in State House District 91
Kenric Ward's blog | Posted: September 1, 2010 11:38 AM
Florida TEA Party candidate John Perez was disqualified from the state House District 91 race, but a circuit court judge ruled that TEA could replace him with another name.
Perez's candidacy was challenged on grounds that he allegedly accepted campaign contributions over the prescribed limit. The court did not order Perez's name removed from the ballot, but authorized the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party to name his replacement if he wins Nov. 2.
"TEA picks a replacement and the supervisors of elections have to put notices in every booth and every polling place indicating that a vote for John Perez is a vote for a TEA Party candidate. We get a campaign sign in every booth," TEA consultant Doug Guetzloe said after the ruling.
The District 91 race pits the still-to-be-named TEA candidate against Democrat Barbra Stern and Republican George Moraitis, who eked out a primary victory over David Maymon.
In a news release issued Wednesday evening, TEA officials stated:
"The Republican Party of Florida has announced that it is funding nine individual lawsuits on behalf of unknown individuals who allegedly are electors from the individual districts involved.
"No one attended today's hearing as a plaintiff and the RPOF legal team offered no explanation why the litigant who RPOF purports to have solicited did not appear either by phone or in person.
"Additionally, the RPOF legal team did not produce an sworn affidavit or testimony from the alleged plaintiff. TEA Party founder and attorney Fred O'Neal asked the judge if such a person even existed since there was no evidence presented."
RPOF spokeswoman Katie Gordon Betta declined comment.
Republicans also are angling to remove TEA candidate John DeVries from the House District 34 race. That case will be heard Thursday.

Florida Tea Party Congratulates Rick Scott on Winning the Republican Nomination for Governor
"It is a great day for Florida," stated Tea Party Founder and Chairman Fred O'Neal upon learning of Rick Scott's victory in the Republican primary.
The Florida Tea Party had made the election of Rick Scott and the defeat of Bill McCollum a top priority in the primary.
"We're pleased that the McCollum operatives were unsuccessful in trying to confuse and destabilize the Scott campaign with an coordinated effort of bogus phone calls and misrepresentations about our party," stated Doug Guetzloe, an un-paid consultant for the Tea Party, Florida's only officially recognized Tea Party. "The efforts of the McCollum campaign to employ 'trackers' and dirty tricks operatives Everett Wilkinson and Don Henserling fell on deaf ears among our tea party activists and tea party organizations that are supporting the Tea Party," Guetzloe concluded.
Everett Wilkinson is the individual who stalked and disrupted the Rick Scott news conference two weeks ago that led to nearly every tea party organization in the state to call for Wilkinson's removal of all tea party activities. Wilkinson has refused to step down in spite of the near unanimous call for his resignation. Don Henserling admitted last week that the Republican Party of Florida was paying him for his legal activities attempting to undermine the Tea Party. Both men have been totally discredited by their association with the corrupt Republican Party of Florida and the Bill McCollum campaign.
"Fortunately with McCollum's loss, the dirty tricks squad of the RPOF will fall silent, at least as far as the Governor's campaign in concerned. We will support Rick Scott's involvement in dismantling the RPOF machine and putting a new party mechanism in place that will support Republican ideals and core values," Guetzloe concluded. Guetzloe was one of the first GOP party officials to call for a full forensic audit of Jim Greer's finances over 14 months ago. Guetzloe was removed from his elected GOP position by Greer for "trouble-making."
The TEA Party sent out over 100,000 emails in support of the Rick Scott candidacy as well as text messaging and voice mail alerts to TEA Party supporters.
The TEA Party looks forward to uniting all tea party factions behind the Scott candidacy in his November match-up with liberal Alex Sink.

This morning when I was leaving church, the gentleman in front of me said to the Pastor, “I’m really against the right wing Republicans AND I’m a Republican!” On my way home, I kept asking myself how do you determine that you are so against the right wing Republicans? I wondered if this man could articulate what he believes. I asked myself: “what do I believe?”
To answer this question, I thought it might be clearer to go from the big to the little in identifying my beliefs. I am a Christian. I believe Jesus is the Son of God and He came to earth to be an example for us and He died on the cross for our sins. We have a number of documents that help us to understand what it means to be a Christian. There is the Apostle’s Creed. There is the Bible. As a Presbyterian, I can reference some Presbyterian positions but I’m very clear on the basics for being a Christian.
Now we come to being an American. I can recite “The Pledge of Allegiance.” And I can reference the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. Together, these 3 documents summarize my beliefs about what it is to be an American.
And that brings me to the question: what does it mean to be a republican? What does it mean to be a right wing republican? I went to the GOP website for insight. Good luck trying to figure out what it means to be a republican. Yes, there were statements on their positions for key issues: national defense, healthcare, education, the courts, and the free market. But these statements don’t tell me if republicans really want a smaller federal government. Nor do they tell me that the tax system is a burden to society. There was no assistance in understanding if republicans cared about the personal principles of integrity and honesty and courage.
I think it is time for us to throw out the 2 party system. The republicans and democrats have both contributed to bigger and bigger federal government. Both parties have grown regulations and the tax laws and in the end made the presence of the federal government a part of every aspect of our lives. Both parties are married to special interests. It is impossible for them to stay in power and not be wedded to special interests. Power and money have corrupted the best intentioned. Believing we can reform these parties from within is naïve and an exercise in futility.
On the other hand, true reform, The Political Reformation, can be accomplished through the new political party, the TEA party. Its published principles are simple: political integrity, fiscal responsibility and less government. Every policy matter can be measured against these 3 principles. Factor in honoring the God given rights of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness and you have the formula for serving the people.
When faced with decisions in my life, I ask the following:
From a Christian perspective, does the decision turn me towards God, helping me become more Christ like?
From an American perspective, does the decision support “The Pledge of Allegiance?”, the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution?
From a political perspective, does the decision support Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness and that through this decision, I demonstrate political integrity, fiscal responsibility and smaller government.
What would the political landscape look like if all politicians lived by a similar set of principles when making decisions?

As a 17 year old, soon to be a senior in high school, I am not one who has a dexterous grasp on understanding politics and the news. As a result, I may not have any idea when profoundly wrong information has been presented to me, causing my opinion to sway one way or another. But I’m taking a step away from my general ignorance to political matters and signing on as a writer/researcher for the campaign of Peg Dunmire, who is not only running for Congress but making history as the first candidate of the newly-founded conservative Florida Tea Party (TEA).
When I first met with her, she seemed a vibrant, go-getter and appeared as someone hungry to make positive changes in the system. I was soon briefed for my first Tea Party mission, to scan the web for articles that had publicized a false rumor intended to hurt the movement. Apparently a number of newspapers and blogs had not been fact-checking their information concerning the party. The rotten fruit heard on the grapevine was that Dunmire’s opponent, Democrat Alan Grayson, was lending a hand in funding the party to split the Republican vote, increasing his chances of maintaining his place in office. This would strongly suggest that the tea party is nothing but a political pawn.
Even I’m not naive enough to think the press is completely accurate in every detail it presents to the public, but I was shocked at how many articles presented the false story. Tens of local newspapers and a few national ones reported on the “connection between Grayson and the Tea Party” including, Sunshine News, Salon News, The Washington Post, Orlando Sentinel, The Daily Beast, CQ Politics, and many others; most without even giving mention to the fact that Dunmire has affirmed she is the sponsor, and Grayson has issued a statement saying he has given nothing to the movement.
I had done work on my own school newspaper and yearbook, and well know that fact-checking is an essential part of the journalism process, and failure to do so usually results in embarrassment or punishment, being either getting an F, or being suspended from the program. It’s like cheating. These writers and bloggers don’t appear to be receiving their F’s, or even apologizing, this is probably because they don’t view the third party TEA movement to be substantial and feel free to disrespect it by slacking a bit. However, In recent polls, the results show that Dunmire has around 20% of the public’s support thus far, a pretty significant figure, and definitely justifying the Tea party is deserving of better news coverage.
If someone wanted to find news and information concerning the party, they’d very likely go online and explore the articles available. Yet with so many publicizing the same rumor, even if that someone researched well, they’d probably come to the conclusion that the rumors must be true; because most people, don’t have the intimacy with the campaign that I have recently acquired and couldn't know when the wool is being pulled over their eyes.
I believe that the TEA party is a much needed addition to our politics. Peg Dunmire wants to do some cleaning up by taking steps to get the country out of debt after all the splurging and spending out of its means. Some say that even my grandchildren will still have the task of digging America out of the hole that this last generation made. I would like to see changes made that are not operated out of greed or agendas that aren’t in the publics best interest; that is what the TEA party promises, and since the right and left sides have been so disappointing for so long, I say they are much welcomed and deserve our attention.

Everywhere in the nation, candidates backed by the tea party movement are winning. In Central Florida, there are self proclaimed tea party leaders who are AFRAID. Let me be clear. Leaders are not afraid. Leaders are courageous. Leaders are bold. Leaders lead by example. These tea party "leaders" are not courageous or leading. They have no ideas. They are intellectually bankrupt; they whine. They demand exposure of alleged financial connections and they themselves are on the payrolls of candidates and they themselves are not accountable. They take money from the public and spend it on their own activities. This is not modeling integrity. On the other hand, I and TEA do disclose our finances and are totally transparent.
We love competition unless it is in politics. And even though the majority of voters are unhappy with the current crop of elected officials, supporting the two-party system seems to be entrenched in the electorate’s psyche. The thought of a “third party” candidate automatically evokes a roadblock from even considering this option. Why the great negative reaction? Because we have been told over and over that a third party will take votes from the Republican Party and thus guarantee a Democrat victory. Umm. Is this true? What does history really tell us? Ross Perot is the most famous third party candidate in my lifetime. In 1992, he ran as an independent and won 19% of the presidential vote. But where did his votes come from and did he “take votes from the Republicans and give the election to Bill Clinton?”
According to Wikipedia: “A detailed analysis of voting demographics revealed that Perot's support drew heavily from across the political spectrum, with 20% of his votes coming from self-described liberals, 27% from self-described conservatives, and 53% coming from self-described moderates…Exit polls also showed that Ross Perot drew 38% of his vote from Bush, and 38% of his vote from Clinton, while the rest of his voters would have stayed home had he not been on the ballot.”
Facts do not support the "spoiler" claim.
I am offering the good people of central Florida with a choice. Vote for real change; real leadership; real ideas; real integrity. Sounds like the answer to me!

The vote for ObamaCare gives false hope to Americans and takes away my rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
The Declaration of Independence calls upon us to right the abuses and to secure our future. ‘...it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security…’ declared our Founders Fathers.
The Declaration of Independence calls upon us to right the abuses and to secure our future. ‘...it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security…’ declared our Founders Fathers.
Last night I watched in horror as the Democrat-led House used the heavy boot of power and abused the public process. The House ignored the will of the people. Our Congress is to represent us but they didn't.
The vote for ObamaCare gives false hope to Americans and takes away my rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. What is more basic to my right to life than to be free to chose how to manage my life and my health care decisions?
We have suffered long enough the distortions of truth with our legislators cooking the books to make us believe this legislation will reduce our deficit. Not true! They have removed from the picture, paying the physicians. Add their costs back in and we will be spending more not less on this bill.
Finally, the legislators have launched an assault upon my privacy and my personal information. They have put the enforcement of these laws under the power and might of the Internal Revenue Service. This is the final straw. I cannot and will not tolerate this blatant abuse of power anymore. I pledge, when I get to Washington, the first legislative business I will attend to is the repeal of this health care reform legislation.
Regarding Alan Grayson and his vote last night: Representative Grayson, we will defeat you in November. You hide under the cloak of platitudes about caring for the people of District 8. Caring is hollow when the services mandated are not paid for but rather are a shell game and tortuous accounting. Dishonesty will be revealed as I make my mission of this campaign to focus on the truth that this legislation is nothing but false hopes and a financial scam that will financially ruin our country.
The founders declared: "provide new Guards for ...our future security." Mr. Grayson, you are not part of the new Guards. Mrs. Pelosi and Mr. Reed, you are not part of the new Guards. It is our duty to throw you out.

The original Boston Tea Party was a rebellion against government control on commerce and taxation without representation. We face those same challenges today. The Tea Party movement, both here in Florida and across the country, is the people rising up and saying "no more!"
Let us review the journey of the Tea Party movement. First, the Tea Party Patriots protested. I am a Tea Party Patriot. They wrote letters; I wrote letters. They called their legislators; I called my legislators. NOTHING CHANGED.
Then they organized Tea Party events. I protested in August at Lake Eola. I went to Washington DC on September 12 (see the pictures on the "About" menu option). There are hundreds of thousands of Tea Party Patriots throughout the country.
The next step is to take back our country right here in Florida. We start by changing our representative to one who represents our interests. I represent the people. I am of the people and for the people.
Join me in our fight for freedom. Let us join together to stop out of control government spending. It is time for your representative to bring freedom and dignity to District 8.

On February 1st, Neil Cavuto has an excellent commentary on President Obama's Federal Budget. "They say actions speak louder than words. I think budgets speak even louder. Because of the budget, words don't matter but numbers do.
And the numbers of the president's budget sound a whole lot different than the president's words. The president says he's tired of business as usual; yet his budget is very much business as usual.
Because he can't say Mr. President that you're really serious about cutting the deficit, when your budget shows you are not remotely serious about cutting the spending. That is business as usual.
Saying you're cutting the deficit by over 1.3 billion bucks over ten years, but leaving out a little detail 1.1 trillion of that comes from taxing and not trimming; then that is business as usual.
Bragging about 250 billion dollars in actual spending cuts over the same period and leaving out a little detail that is barely 25 billion in multi trillion dollar budgets each year. That is business as usual.
Saying you'll get even those laughable cuts when your own party dominated congress can't even agree on trimming a mere twenty billion by consolidating 640 government programs. So that is business as usual.
Saying you're serious about reining in congress but apparently congress is not. That is business as usual.
Killing an amendment to take back the 245 million dollar increase to congress budgeted itself earlier this year. That is business as usual.
Because he can't say you're better than the predecessor you can't stop blaming if you're playing the same games you vowed you'd be stopping. Assuming robust growth we will likely never see; omitting barely a whiff of inflation we'll likely very much see. That is business as usual.
Because it is one thing to nix NASA going back to the moon and think you're somehow being brave; Quite another to push a budget that takes us to the Twilight Zone. Think you're being anything but a joke."

As I listened to the State of the Union Address last night, I was struck that sometimes our assumptions lead us to wrong actions.
President Obama's core assumption about public policy appears to be that we individuals are incapable of understanding our own problems. Since we are not capable, we must rely on someone else to "fix" our problems for us. The someone else is the government. I, on the other hand, believe in ourselves and in forces bigger than me. I am a true believer in the forces of the market. Thus, I expect the market will appropriately set prices by placing a monetary value on a good or service. Left to move without interference, the market will correct housing prices if they are high or low. The market guides each of us consumers to invest to get a reasonable return on our investments. Why do I expect this? Because this market is not some abstract force. It is where you and I go to reveal our own decisions about the worth of something. In short, the market is made of us. And, together, we do amazing things.
President Obama, however, seems to think that the market (that's you and me) is a wild force which must be chained.

He wants to rein the market in by having the Federal Government determine the prices we pay for things. Then the Federal Government will instruct us on which investments are worthwhile. How do I know this? Because every time President Obama proposes subsidizing something like refinancing home mortgages or forgiving student loans, he has the Federal Government determine the value of these investments. If I were to ask the President if that were his intention, he might say no. He might say that this is good public policy to keep people in their homes and make their homes more affordable. He might say that it is good public policy to forgive student loans by working in non-profit organizations.
However, what the Federal Government is really doing is seductively destructive. On the surface, it appears that reducing costs are a good thing. But what is really happening is that the government is taking money from productive citizens and giving it to other citizens for what the government determines is worthy. Neither the productive citizens nor the benefitting subsidized citizens are full participants in this grown up responsibility of life: your own informed decisions.

What will President Obama say is the state of the union? What do you say is the state of our union? We have unemployment in Florida and Orlando area over 11%. When you are unemployed, your whole world feels like it is coming apart. So what can we do? I encourage the unemployed to keep a positive attitude and try things they have never considered.
For example, can you imagine starting your own business? If you have a skill, chances are that you can use that skill in your own business. Start small. Don't go into debt to start your own business. Just go do something for someone and see if that "something" is useful to someone else. Do you have a special recipe? Make it and give it to someone. Look around and see what you do that is good and others comment you are good at doing. Then imagine how you can use your special gift to help someone else. YOU can join the millions of entrepreneurs and start your own business. Don't wait for someone to hire you. Make the move and think of the possibilities. Then, try it.

Just when I was disheartened that nothing could stop this Obamacare legislation, Massachusetts politics offers a ray of hope. Amazing win. Wow.

The health care bills from the Senate and the House will be merged into one. What will the final bill look like? First, we must acknowledge that this final bill will NOT bring down health care costs. It will NOT improve health care access. It will NOT be cost effective. Then what will it be? It WILL be a patchwork of bribes and payoffs to special interests. We don't want this! We MUST repeal this. Elect me and I will make my mission the repeal of this health care bill.

I woke up at 6:45am today to see the Senate vote for this health care bill. How can 60 men and women be so misguided? While there were speeches of self acclaimed praise for doing what 65 years of legislators could not do, I was pondering ways to change the apparent course we are on. Why am I not happy? Because those of us who are from the health care industry understand that this complex proposal will not do what the legislators want it to do. There has only been one entitlement program that has ever come in at costs less than originally projected and that is Medicare Part D's Prescription program. To the chagrin of the democrats, this program rooted in the private market brought down the prescription drug costs. This Senate bill is not only NOT rooted in the private marketplace, it is completely anti-private market and will drive out the private market. We are witnessing the real attempt at destroying our private health care market and moving to something else...a public utility model perhaps or the next step in a single payor health care system. Whatever is going to happen, it is not a system that will either control costs nor increase access to health care.
Listen up friends! The time has come to get on the real health care bandwagon: reduce your stress; sleep 8 hours a night; eat healthy; and exercise. For now, your health care is in your hands. In the future, who knows?

Did you listen to Senator Bernie Sanders speech yesterday on his rationale for a single payer health care system? This is a very important passionate speech that clearly states his contempt for the free market system and capitalism in general. I am puzzled that anyone could have such disdain for our way of life when these economic forces have given us the blessings that our country enjoys.
December 15th, I held my first Town Hall Meeting in Hunter's Creek. Topic: Federal Health Care Legislation and How it Affects You. Attendees said that the seminar was very educational. They encouraged me to have more and I will.
The Wall Street Journal, December 14th, opinion "The 'Cost Control' Bill of Goods How Peter Orszag and the White House sold a health-care illusion. EXCELLENT; MUST READ; totally true.
Then we had the Senators speaking on Health Care reform. It is mind boggling and distracting that these senators are giving speeches and on talk shows when they admit, they don't even have the bill before them that they are talking about! They do have the basic 2,000+ page bill but then there are numerous amendments that will change the 2,000+ bill and the amendments are what they don't have. What a mess.

TEA PARTY NOMINEE PEG DUNMIRE CALLS FOR DISTRICT 8 DEBATE
WITH GRAYSON AND WEBSTER
"I congratulate Senator Dan Webster on his victory in the Republican primary and we look forward to a meaningful discussion of the issues facing this District and the nation. I immediately call on Dan and Alan to participate in at least two (2) debates at a time and place to be determined. It is important to allow the citizens of District 8 the opportunity to evaluate all three of us prior to the November general election," stated Peg Dunmire, TEA Party nominee for the US Congress District 8.
Dunmire, 62, won the Tea Party nomination without opposition and will face incumbent Democrat Alan Grayson and former State Senator Dan Webster who won the GOP nomination with less than 40% of the vote.
For the primary, over 100 tea party volunteers placed over 1,000 "Remember in November-It's Tea Time! Dunmire for Congress yard signs at over 200 precincts in the District.

48 hours from the primary and what is the state of affairs? On the governor's level, the debate is vicious. What is the truth?

The Republican Party of Florida and tea party activists are up to dirty tricks. They are using lies, the courts, and the media to discredit me and to allege I am conspiring to take Republican voters away from Republican candidates. TRUE! Newsflash: Elections are about taking votes away from certain candidates and getting them to vote for others. DUH. I am on the side of truth. I stand for freedom, truth and honesty. The dirty tricks operators do not.
